Fairhope, Alabama
Fairhope, AL an affluent suburb of Mobile, is nestled along the Eastern Shore of historic Mobile Bay.
Fairhope offers one of the most unique living opportunities anywhere in Alabama or the Gulf Coast, for that matter. A small community with big dreams is a great way to describe this picturesque city on Baldwin County’s Eastern Shore. A place with a great school system, fantastic property values, great shopping and dining, an outdoor enthusiast dream, championship level golf courses, top notch medical facilities and only 30 minutes from the beach would be another way to describe it.
If you like taking in breathtaking sunsets and then taking a golf cart ride to a 5-star dinner, then Fairhope is where you want to be. A laid back, artsy vibe encompasses the area, where a stroll along its flowered sidewalks will put you face to face with fabulous boutiques, art galleries and some of the finest restaurants on the Gulf Coast.
With homes surrounding downtown that encompass the “fruit and nut” district to big bay windowed, wrap around porch beauties with views to die for, Fairhope has it all.
Fairhope has so much to offer and the people here love to be outside. If taking a walk at sunset, along the lapping waters of Mobile Bay seems like a perfect afternoon to you, then bring your favorite pup to one of the beautiful, dog friendly parks that line its shores. In fact, the city is so dog friendly, there is a parade dedicated to them every year.
Here are just some of the happenings in Fairhope each year:
- Fairhope Arts and Crafts Festival
- Fairhope Film Festival held each November
- Parades full of throws and moon pies fill the streets every year as Mardi Gras comes to Downtown Fairhope
- You can’t kick off the Holiday season without the annual Lighting of the Trees and Christmas parade
- Annual Mystic Mutts of Revelry Pet Parade
- October Charity Witches Ride – Fun for a cause and everyone loves it.
- First Friday Art Walk in Downtown. As the evenings begin to cool, the businesses downtown throw open their doors and welcome all. Listen to live music, enjoy a glass of wine, view fantastic art and enjoy a general festival type feel as the community comes out to enjoy what Fairhope is really about.
- Fall Outdoor Farmers Market– local farmers and artisans display their wares on Thursdays for you to sample and purchase, just like your grandparents used to do.
- Fairhope News Years Eve Ball Drop – The name says it all!
Places you need to visit:
Page and Pallet bookstore, coffee shop and music venue. For over 50 years this has been a fixture of downtown Fairhope. This is one of my favorite places to visit. It is one of the few locally owned book stores that still cater to the artist. You can catch book signings from world renowned artists, listen to local musicians and pick up the latest copy of your favorite author. Great place to listen to a great new artist with your favorite beverage close at hand.
Fairhope Municipal Park and Pier. Since 1894 it has been the city’s “town square”. First, a commercial pier, it has now become a local’s playground and the epicenter for some of the prettiest sunsets you will ever witness. With a large beach, plenty of park benches and plenty of parking it is a great place to spend a Saturday. Catch it in the Spring, to see the 100’s of red and pink Azaleas in full bloom.
Fairhope Yacht Club. If you like dinner with your sunsets, then you will want to head down to the Yacht Club, check out the sail boats and then have a 5-star meal at Sunset Point! You will not be disappointed.
Fairhope, AL is not just a place, it is a state of mind. People move here to be part of a community and enjoy, and I mean really enjoy, what life has to offer. Not everyone can live here, but if you are one of the lucky ones who can, then don’t wait. Life’s too short.
